Fire on the Water, Smoke in the Sky describes the atmosphere in this painting. In 1998 while Salmon Arm was burning Sicamous was feeling the fires rage in the hazy skies; particles of fire debris (smoke and ash) fell in our town and over our lakes and beaches.

The media reported “20 homes and 15 barns” were destroyed during the firestorm in the Silver Creek area to the South of Salmon Arm, which also produced Canada’s largest civil evacuation up to that date when the “5000 hectare forest fire that forced the removal of 7000 residents of Salmon Arm was being blown toward the Town.”
